The holiday shopping season kicked off against the background of high-profile robberies and burglaries in stores and people in the streets. 
What's been done to keep you safe in all shopping malls and What can you do to protect yourself?
Malls are certainly very busy for the holiday shopping season and this year safety has taken on new meaning. We are talking more than masking and vaccinations which is why the LAPD has devoted dexter resources at our local shopping centers.
From the San Fernando valley to la's WESTSIDE shoppers like earl Evans are seeing a police presence at local malls. This comes after a series of smash-and-grab robberies at the Nordstrom store in Canoga park Wednesday night, where a security guard was attacked with bear spray, and Westfield century city uniformed officers were on foot patrol while expanding barriers at the ready. 
 >>Police Resources: "We are monitoring the situation closely. We have a great relationship with LAPD and local authorities and are working closely with them to make sure we are prepared." 
The LAPD said it's recorded more than 134 more robberies in recent months. l.a. county shared Jen Donald says they don't want you to be a target.

 In addition to the extra security at the mall, the chief of LAPD said this week that his department is forming a new task force to combat the rising number of following home robberies.
